Primary (3-6 years)

“Our aim is not only to make the child understand, and still less to force him to memorize, but so to touch his imagination as to enthuse him to his innermost core.” – Maria Montessori

Our 3-6 year old children work within a specially designed multi-aged community which encourages them to grow, develop and build skills in a supportive child-centered environment based on the scientific method developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.  Children remain a part of the same community for all three  years.  They nurture strong relationships and a sense of belonging in an environment that continually grows along with their needs.

Classroom Areas

Practical Life:
The activities of daily living teach children to care for themselves, their classroom and the out of doors.

Children experience color, work with a variety of Art Mediums and are introduced to famous artists and their work.

Children learn to make sense of their world through specially designed manipulative materials, each focusing on the refinement of a specific sensory skill.

Children begin with counting and progress to work with the decimal system, extended linear and skip counting and mathematical operations.

Language is developed naturally, learning to listen and speak.  They learn to write and read using the specialized Montessori materials when they are developmentally ready.

Children are exposed to the worlds of Science and Geography.  They work with globes and maps to see their place in the world.

Out Of Doors:
The natural world is integrated into our school not only during “playground time” but through gardening and nature walks as well.
